TSC Retirements and Service Exits – 10 Recognized Categories
Voluntary Retirement

Eligibility: At least 50 years of age and 10 years of continuous service (P&P terms).

Notice: Three months’ written notice through the head of institution.

Benefits: Lump sum and monthly pension processed via the Treasury.
Retirement on Medical Grounds

Trigger: Medical incapacity or upon application with valid medical documents.

Procedure:

Medical Board convened by Director of Medical Services (DMS).

Recommendations forwarded to TSC.
-
If approved, teacher is retired on medical grounds.
-

Benefits: Pension and lump sum benefits applicable.
Retirement in Public Interest
Applied when a teacher’s continued service is not in the public or institutional interest.

Benefits: Full retirement benefits applicable.
Resignation
-
Terms: Available for P&P teachers with 3 months’ notice or one month’s salary in lieu.

Benefits: No pension.

Male teachers may claim WCPS (Widows and Children Pension Scheme) refund.

Resignation on Marriage Grounds (For Married Women)
-
Eligibility: 5 years of service on P&P terms.

Benefit: Marriage Gratuity – 1/12 of monthly pensionable pay × total months served (max 1-year pensionable emoluments).
Termination of Service
Can occur under:

Temporary/probationary terms: 1-month notice or salary in lieu.

P&P terms: 3-month notice or salary in lieu.

Benefits:

NSSF administered as per NSSF Act for temporary staff.

WCPS refund for eligible male teachers.

Death Gratuity
Paid to dependants if the teacher dies in service (confirmed on P&P terms).

Requirements:

Original death certificate.

Letter from chief confirming next of kin.

Clearance of any overpayment.

Dependants under 18 years get pension for 5 years
.
Killed While on Duty
Applicable when death occurs in line of duty without teacher's own fault.

Benefits: Pension payable to spouse or dependants.
Release to Other Organizations
Applicable when a teacher is absorbed into:

Teacher unions

Parastatals

Educational NGOs

Conditions:

Submit appointment letter, acceptance letter, and clearance certificate.

Benefits suspended until retirement from new institution.

Transfer of Service
Applies when a teacher joins another government ministry/agency.

Procedure:

Apply with appointment letter, acceptance letter, and clearance.

TSC forwards service records to new ministry for benefit continuity.

Bonus: Compulsory Retirement

Age Limit: 60 years.

Notice: Issued 2 years prior (or earlier in special cases).

Provide bank details.

Confirm tax status with KRA.
Decide on pension commutation (up to 25%).
