Dr. Nancy Macharia Officially Retires as TSC CEO, Eveleen Mitei Takes Over in Acting Capacity

Dr. Nancy Njeri Macharia, the long-serving CEO and Secretary of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), has officially retired after completing her ten-year term. Her farewell ceremony was held at the TSC Headquarters, Upper Hill, Nairobi, and was attended by staff and teachers.

Her exit on June 30, 2025, followed an earlier communication where she announced her terminal leave starting June 1, 2025, paving the way for Ms. Eveleen Mitei to take over as Acting CEO.

Dr. Macharia, who turned down a nomination to chair the Murang’a County Public Service Board, cited a preference for part-time roles and a competing offer from an international body.

During her decade at the helm, she oversaw numerous reforms in Kenya's education sector. Her leadership has left a lasting mark on teacher management and policy implementation.

However, the recruitment of her successor has hit a legal snag. The Employment and Labour Relations Court in Mombasa issued interim orders suspending the process, following a petition alleging constitutional and discriminatory irregularities.

Focus now shifts to Eveleen Mitei, who brings over 30 years of experience in education and human resource management. A no-nonsense administrator, Mitei previously served as Director of Teacher Discipline Management, where she deregistered hundreds of teachers over misconduct.

Her immediate task is to lead CBA 2025–2029 negotiations, currently in progress with KNUT, and scheduled with KUPPET tomorrow. Teachers nationwide await eagerly for a salary increment in the July payroll, hoping for a favourable outcome from the talks.
