Patrick Kirui Unveils Digital Transformation Blueprint for Bomet KUPPET
A tech-driven agenda to empower teachers across the county
Kirui’s blueprint focuses on a responsive website, bulk SMS communication, digital welfare management and programs to uplift Junior Secondary teachers and early-career professionals.
In a detailed plan released on his campaign platform, Kirui says the union must embrace digital tools to make operations faster, fairer and more inclusive. "A digitally transformed Bomet KUPPET ensures every teacher is informed, equipped and heard," he says.
Digitizing the Union
Kirui proposes an upgraded, mobile-friendly union website to host notices, circulars and a central Teachers’ Resource Hub. The blueprint includes professional email accounts for elected BEC members and a bulk SMS system to guarantee instant communication with teachers in every sub‑county.
Enhancing Teachers’ Welfare
The plan calls for transparent digital management of the Bereavement and Benevolent Fund (BBF), advocacy for improved medical cover, and online financial literacy workshops to strengthen teachers’ financial resilience.
"We will publish clear, quarterly financial reports so members know how funds are collected and used," Kirui pledged.
Supporting Junior Secondary Teachers
Junior Secondary (JS) teachers will benefit from a dedicated digital advocacy platform, enabling the collection of data and petitions to push for separate administrative recognition and better leadership opportunities.
Professional Growth & Promotions
Kirui plans to introduce an online promotions dashboard and to campaign for automatic promotions every four years. The union will also use its platform to register and sponsor KNEC examiner training and to track professional development.
Life Outside the Classroom
Programs to register and coordinate teachers for extracurricular roles — such as adjudicators, referees and coaches — will be managed online. Kirui also proposes a Teachers’ County League and an annual Bomet Teachers Fun Day, all coordinated through the union’s digital channels.
Inclusivity, Equity & Legal Support
The blueprint champions gender-balanced leadership, accessible services for teachers with disabilities, and outreach to those in remote areas. It also promises free legal consultations, webinars on teachers’ rights and an online legal portal for correspondence and appeals.
Transparency & Accountability
Key to Kirui’s plan is openness: quarterly and annual financial reports will be published on the union website, independent audit findings shared publicly, and member feedback gathered through web forms and SMS to foster accountability.
Implementation: First 100 Days
Kirui’s immediate priorities include launching the upgraded website and Teachers’ Resource Hub, scaling bulk SMS communications, conducting a digital membership survey, and publishing a live digital financial dashboard showing BBF contributions and planned disbursements.
